WELCOME TO PREK3
The PreK3 program at Corpus Christi School will be taught by Mrs. Amy Strafford, Mrs. Joanne Sambucini and Miss Ashley Pavlik this year. The purpose of this letter is to introduce you to the program, as well as to introduce ourselves to you and your child as you anticipate his/her first school experience. We hope this newsletter answers many of your questions. We are looking forward to meeting you and your child in September and having a great year together.
Schedule: The schedule for full day students is 8:30AM 2:30PM and 8:30AM 11:50AM for halfway students. (All students will attend school Monday to Friday.) The teachers will meet the children at 8:30AM each morning in the playground on nice weather days or in the gym if the weather is inclement. (An adult must remain with the student until the teacher arrives.)
Before and After Care: Before and AfterCare will be offered to PreK3 children. BeforeCare begins at 7AM and AfterCare runs from 2:40PM to 6PM. Paperwork must be filled out ahead of time to have your child registered for Before and AfterCare.
You will only be billed for the hours you use.
Absence: Please notify the school office by 8:30AM if your child is going to be absent. The school office number is 201-288-0614.
To ensure your child’s safety, if someone other than the parent or people listed on the pickup list, will be picking up your child, we must have a note before the child will be released. If you are going to be late picking up your child, please inform the school office as soon as possible. If an emergency arises and you cannot pick up your child, and you are sending someone else, please call the school office first. We will dismiss the children in the playground on nice weather days or at the front door on inclement weather days.
Clothing: The children must wear uniforms purchased from CoEd Uniform Company that have the Corpus Christi School logo on them. Sweat pants, sweat shirts, mesh shorts and the tee shirts are the mandatory uniform.
Socks and sneakers do not have to be purchased from CoEd.
Sneakers must be worn daily. The sneakers should be primarily white and must tie or velcro. (Please note: Jewelry cannot be worn on gym days.)
We request that each child have a labeled shoebox with a plastic bag and extra clothing and shoes in it in case there is a bathroom accident. Parents may be required to come in and change their child in such cases. Full day students need to bring in a small pillow and blanket (both labeled with their name) so that he/she can rest comfortably on the cot provided. All bedding must be placed in a clear, large Hefty zip lock bag. Bedding will be sent home on a regular basis to be cleaned.
Supplies: We are requesting that each child bring the following items the first week of school: 3 boxes of tissues, 3 rolls of paper towels, 3 boxes of baby wipes, 3 containers of antibacterial wipes, 1 bottle of multipurpose (cleaner) spray, 1 ream of copy paper, and a 3 pack of Elmer’s glue sticks.
Correspondence: Each child should have a full size backpack and pocket folder. (For safety reasons, the backpacks may not have wheels on them.)
Each must be visibly labeled on the outside (preferably on the front) with the child’s name. Information about upcoming events may be sent home in the folder (please check daily) or via email.
School Reach phone calls will be made occasionally to inform you about school delays, school closings and other pertinent information. In most cases, if you need to contact your child’s teacher, email is the most efficient way. You may also write your child’s teacher a note and put it in their folder. If it is urgent, you may call the school office to have a message relayed to the teacher.
Snack/Lunch: Corpus Christi is a “nut free” school. If there is any food sent in that contains nuts, your child will not be allowed to eat it and it will be returned home. The children will have a snack and drink each morning at approximately 10AM and lunch (for the full day students) will be at noon.
For full day students, the snack and lunch items must be sent in separate containers/bags with his/her name on the outside and must include napkins, straws, and utensils. Please do not send in glass bottles, candy or soda. We are unable to heat food, so plan lunch accordingly. Please do not send in large bottles of drinks. We find that juice boxes work best or small water bottles. If your child is staying for AfterCare, please send a snack and drink for AfterCare as well.
Birthdays: If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday in school, please let us know one week in advance. Cupcakes, Entenmann Popems,
etc. may be sent in for a snack. (Dunkin Donuts Munchkins are no longer allowed, since they are not guaranteed to be nut free.) You may supply napkins and plates. Do not send in drinks, goody bags or favors. If your child has a summer birthday and you would like to celebrate in school, please see your child’s teacher to arrange another date. If your child has food allergies, you will be asked to send in a special snack on the day of a party. Invitations for parties can only be given out in school if everyone in the class is invited. Birthday party invitations will be distributed as long as the entire class is invited, otherwise they must be given out off school grounds by you, the parent. While your generosity is appreciated it is our policy that no goody bags or other class gifts for birthdays or holidays to be sent in for distribution to the class.
Holidays: For holiday celebrations, a signup sheet will be in the classroom on Back to School Night. Please sign up for items for the holiday of your choice. Class parents will remind you what you have signed up for.
Student of the Week: Each week a “Student of the Week” will be selected.
Every child will get a turn as Student of the Week during the school year. A special poster will be sent home for you to complete and return to school at your earliest convenience.
Class Parents: You will be receiving a letter from the Home School Association regarding the Class Parent Program. Please note that only class parents may be allowed to attend class parties. Also, younger siblings will not be allowed to come to school when a class parent is needed. You will be notified by the HSA if you have been selected.
PLEASE NOTE: ANYTHING SENT TO SCHOOL MUST HAVE YOUR CHILD’S NAME ON IT (ON THE OUTSIDE) SO THAT IT CAN BE EASILY IDENTIFIED, THAT INCLUDES BACKPACKS, FOLDERS, SNACK BAGS AND LUNCH BOXES. COATS, SWEATERS AND JACKETS SHOULD HAVE THE NAME OR INITIALS ON THE INSIDE LABEL OR TAG. PLEASE COMPLETE THE ATTACHED INFORMATION SHEET AND RETURN IT TO SCHOOL ON THE FIRST DAY.
We look forward to seeing you in September.

Welcome to PreK4!
Hello! Welcome to what will be a fun and exciting year for your child entering our PreK4 program at Corpus Christi School . We hope that you are as enthusiastic as we are for the upcoming year. This newsletter will try to answer the many questions you may have as your child begins our PreK4 program.
This year our PreK4 Orientation is Wednesday, September 7th from 78
pm . It will be held in the cafeteria of the main school. Parents will meet with the ECLC director Mrs. Hund and the teachers to discuss pertinent information about the upcoming school year. Adults only please!
children will report to school on both Thursday and Friday, September 8th and 9th. Thursday, September 8th students will attend school from 9 am to 11 am. and Friday September 9th they will attend from 8:10 am to 11:55 am. Students should bring a snack on both of these days. All students must be picked up at 11:55 am as there is no aftercare available on these days.
Our schedule is as follows:
Full Day 8:10 am to 2:40 pm Monday through Friday
Half Day 8:10 am to 12:00 pm Monday through Friday
Please note: Typically, the first Friday of each month will be a half day for all children.
Please make arrangements for your child to be picked up by 11:55 am on those days.
Aftercare is available only for those children whom are registered. Please check the monthly calendar on a regular basis.
Students in the PreK 4 are required to wear uniforms . The uniforms are to be purchased at CoEd Uniform located in Elmwood Park. Please inform CoEd that you are purchasing a PreK Corpus Christi School uniform. Children must wear predominately white sneakers (ties or velcro (velcro is preferred)) with their uniform with both summer and winter uniforms.
Each morning the students will assemble in the playground of the Early Childhood Learning Center (aka ECLC ) located on the Boulevard across the street from the Corpus Christi Church. During inclement weather, students will wait inside the gym.
Parents must wait with their child until their teacher arrives at 8:10 am to pick them up .
Parents are not to accompany their child into their classroom.
At dismissal, students are dismissed from the playground gates of the ECLC . In inclement weather, students will be dismissed from the main entrance of the building.
For your child’s safety, umbrellas are not allowed inside the school building.
Each child will be released only to their parent or designated person.
If you are going to be late picking up your child from school, please inform the office as soon as possible at 201-288-0614.
Items your child will need for the upcoming year are as follows:
Backpack: Each child will need a backpack to take home daily work, projects and
correspondence. The backpack should be large enough to hold a folder, a snack bag
and a lunch box (as well as an additional snack if your child will be attending our Aftercare program). Please label your child’s backpack with his or her name as well as their lunchbox and snack bag.
Due to safety concerns, we ask that backpacks do not have wheels.
Folder: We will be sending home various communication in the way of notes, letters and/or work. Please have your child bring a folder with his/her name clearly written on the front. Also, it is very important that parents check and empty your child’s folder daily.
Change of Clothes: Accidents do happen throughout the year. We are asking every child to bring in a full change of all weather clothes (labeled underwear, socks, pants, and a shirt that your child can change themselves into). Please put these clothes in a labeled shoe box to be kept in our classroom closet.
Ream of paper: Please send in one ream of copy paper.
Smock: Please send in a smock to keep in school for art projects and crafts. A smock with long sleeves is the best protection against any spills or messes. Once again, we ask that you label your child’s smock with his/her name.
Glue Sticks: Please send in a minimum of 3 Elmer’s glue sticks with your child.
Dixie cups: Please send in one box of Dixie cups (small size)
Tissues, Spray Bottle of Cleaner, Wipes and Paper Towels: Please send in 2 of each of these items (except cleaner) with your child during the first week. These items are extremely helpful during our classroom activities. We appreciate your generosity.
Each morning, we will have snack time. Please pack a healthy snack , drink and napkin
for your child. If your child is a full day student, they will also need to bring their lunch daily. Your child must have a separate snack bag in addition to their lunch bag. We will have two separate places to place our snack and lunch bags in order to avoid
confusion. Please label your child’s snack and lunch bags with his/her name. It is extremely important to know that we are a peanut and nut product free school.
Please advise the office by 8:00am if your child will not be attending school. Upon their return, please submit a short note stating the reason for absence. If you know in advance that your child will be absent, notify the office as soon as possible. If you need to pick up your child before the dismissal time, you must advise us in writing what time you will arrive.
Birthdays are extra special in PreK. We will be happy to celebrate your child’s birthday in school. Parents are free to send in nut free snacks (such as cupcakes for the class to share at snack time). Please let us know at least one week in advance if you wish to celebrate your child’s birthday in school. Any summer birthdays will be celebrated at the end of the year. Please note: Dunkin Donuts products are no longer allowed in the school due to the fact that they cannot guarantee their products come from a nut free environment.
The Early Childhood Learning Center will be happy to distribute party invitations as long as the entire class is invited. Invitations that do not include the whole class must be given out off school grounds by you, the parent. While your generosity is appreciated, it is our policy that no goody bags or other class gifts for birthdays or holidays to be sent in for distribution to the class.
Children will have Gym once a week. This day will be announced at the beginning of the school year. Children are to wear supportive sneakers on Gym day. No jewelry is allowed. Please remove earrings on gym day.
Please inform us in writing of any medical problems, allergies or medications involving your child. Please fill out the PreK Information Sheet attached and put in your child’s folder the first day of school. It is imperative that we have this information for the safety of your child.
We always want to hear of any concerns you may have. Anytime you would like to have a conference or discussion with us, please email us or send a note in your child’s folder to schedule an appointment. No conferences will be held without a scheduled appointment.
Our website and class pages are updated monthly, so please go to www.corpuschristischool.net , go to class pages and find your teacher’s name for their personal class page. We list special dates, upcoming events, aftercare information, what we are learning and other pertinent information on our pages.
Parents will be invited on occasion throughout the school year for special events. Your attendance is always appreciated!
Most importantly, love and encourage your child and thank God for the blessing He has given you!
We cannot wait to meet your child in September! As the year progresses, you will notice all the new skills your child will be learning. By June, your child will leave with the social and academic skills ready to conquer Kindergarten.
See you soon!
